Today, both legal and illegal logging, drug trafficking, and the construction of roads and routes for transporting illicit products are among the main risks faced by Indigenous populations in the region.

The UC-105 corridor (Nueva Italia–Puerto Breu) in Peru also poses a major threat to the region. Opened by logging companies and other extractive operations, this road cuts across sacred headwaters, Indigenous territories, and protected areas, affecting more than 30 Indigenous and traditional communities across the Yurúa and Alto Tamaya (Peru) and Alto Juruá (Brazil) regions.
